Came across this project today. Glad I’m not the only one that finds the Close’s of Edinburgh’s old town a fascinating place to site art works.
‘Tamsin Cunningham has received funding towards contemporary art programme, Open Close. A re-imagining of four closes on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, the project will see the closes temporarily transformed into a sensory open-air gallery during July 2017.’

‘Open Close 2017 is a temporary experimental arts installation project led by a team of award-winning artists and architects. Using sound, light, sculpture, design and visual arts the project looks to re-imagine three Edinburgh Royal Mile closes during a four-week exhibition in July. Taking contemporary art out of the traditional gallery setting and into the heart of Scotland’s Capital, Open Close promises to re-imagine the Closes of Edinburgh’s historic Old Town, transforming them into a sensory open-air gallery. Through it’s innovative temporary interventions Open Close will support and is supported by Edinburgh World Heritage initiative Twelve Closes, a major grassroots urban renewal initiative focussed on long term transformation of twelve of Edinburgh’s historic pedestrian streets.’
