Sculptural work that is an interpretation of the phenomenon of the Berlin wall, it’s division, it’s alienation.

‘Tightrope’, 2015. Wood, metal, concrete, wire, gold leaf, straw, varnish and paint.

I made this sculpture after visiting Berlin a few years earlier. Like most people, I was fascinated by the Berlin Wall and it’s tangible and intangible remains.

The sculpture is an interpretation of the politics of the wall, it’s division, it’s alienation.

In the middle - the dead zone - I added forms that resemble egg shells, with a wire tight rope above it, to create the feeling of tension and the fragility between the two sides of a walled border system.
